Wisborough Green suffered an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat after they were skittled for just 25 at promoted Mayfield.

Jamie Self’s men sunk back to the foot of the Division 4 table with the hammering as their hosts clinched a place in Division 3 with the victory.

Marno Pretorius grabbed 7-13 and a hat-trick as Chris Francis (13), Jonny Farmer (four) and Tim McMath (six) were the only batsmen to score in their miserable total of 25 in 15 overs after they won the toss.

Mayfield’s Thomas Kimber (13*) and Edward Finch (ten*)then saw them home with 26-1 in 3.3 overs.

Wisborough now just have three games left to save their place in the Sussex League. Self said: “Saturday was undoubtedly a tough day, and certainly the toughest I’ve been a part of as captain, but that’s behind us now. Congratulations to Mayfield on their promotion, they have been the best side in the league this year and they have a good bowler in Marno; but we didn’t show the application required at the crease.

“There were a lot of guys who came in to help us out this week, and I’m very grateful that they put themselves on the line for us. They gave it their all, and it’s us 1st XI regulars that have to take the blame for this one.

“I don’t believe that Saturday has changed our position at all. We’ve known all along that this game isn’t what will define our season, it is very much the three games we have in front of us now. Survival is in our own hands as we play the teams around us, and that’s exactly what we have to focus on.”
