Wind turbine is turned down

PLANS for the installation of 16 solar panels and a wind turbine at a farm in West Chiltington Lane, Billingshurst, have been turned down.

Horsham District Council has decided that ‘more consultation’ is needed over the proposals for land at Pear Tree Farm.

At a meeting of the council’s development control (south) committee on April 19, Shelia Van Den Bergh (Con, Billingshurst and Shipley) said: “It’s a very open site. I suggest that more consultation is needed here.”

The meeting heard that the application had prompted nine letters of objection which included concerns about noise and danger to horses which could become ‘spooked’ by the turbine.

Billingshurst Parish Council also ‘strongly’ objected to the plans as it believed the turbine would be ‘intrusive’.

However, Roger Paterson (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham) said further guidance on wind turbines was needed in the future.

He added: “We should be doing our best to encourage it. It seems a shame that we are not able to facilitate people who want to put them in.”
