NOT EVEN the wind and driving rain could stop crews from West Sussex Fire & Service doing their bit for charity.

On Saturday September 17 firefighters across the county offered residents a car washing service at their local station in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity.

Over £3,000 was raised by West Sussex stations, including Billingshurst, Storrington and Henfield.

All proceeds will go to charity which provides valuable treatment and support services to more than 17,000 firefighters who are injured each year.

The National Car Wash Day is one of the Charity’s largest fund-raising events of the year and involves fire stations throughout the UK.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “The wash day aims to be both fun and educational and gives residents the chance to meet their local firefighters and have an informal chat about fire safety issues while their cars are given a tender-loving clean.

“Well done to all those who took part and thanks to all those who kindly donated.”
