Horsham district commuters face tricky time getting home

Commuters travelling to and from the Horsham district face problems on rail and road this evening (Monday January 6).

The disruption to Southern services this morning due to flooding at Littlehaven and at Christ Hospital has continued throughout the day.

The Arun Valley line via Horsham remains closed with no train services operating between Ford and Crawley via Horsham.

Also, the line between Horsham and Dorking is closed due to a landslip last month at Ockley. This line is unlikely to open until February due to the amount of work needed to make the area safe.

Replacement buses are operating between Barnham and Three Bridges via Horsham and Metrobus continues to accept rail passengers on services between Horsham and Gatwick Airport subject to available space onboard.

However, flooding has also affected the replacement bus services which have experienced delays en-route.

On the roads around the district, there are two main problems due to flooding.

The A264 Crawley Road in Faygate is partially blocked between the Faygate Lane junction and Moorhead Roundabout, and the road is just passable on the A264 westbound in Horsham before the Great Daux Roundabout.

However, there are several other roads with large puddles and surface water that is potentially dangerous for drivers, particularly on unlit country roads.

The Met Office forecast is for more rain this evening with showers (some heavy) during tomorrow (Tuesday January 7) and gusting winds.
