Light winds from the south have tempted gardeners to mow the lawn as temperatures have matched those in Barcelona or the Cote d’Azur, but frosts could be back next week.

According to the Met Office, over the weekend the wind is set to change to a more westerly direction, bringing just a taste of the chilly weather currently being experienced around New York.

While Sussex won’t experience the snow and -4degC temperatures being endured in parts of the US, it will be a case of getting the winter coats back on with daytime temperatures struggling to hit double figures next week.

Tomorrow (Thursday March 16) is due to be overcast with some early mist or fog.

Friday is expected to be brighter but colder before a mainly overcast weekend.

By Tuesday the night-time temperature is forecast to be a lowly 3degC, struggling to get to 9degC in the day.

The longer range forecast is for brighter, breezier conditions with temperatures returning back to average.

A period of drier and quieter weather may then establish itself.

Towards the end of March high pressure is likely to largely dominate the UK; feeling colder and increasing the chances of some overnight frosts.
