County council issues warning over heavy overnight rain

A warning of heavy rain tonight and tomorrow (Saturday July 4) morning has been made by West Sussex County Council.

The council says that the Met Office is predicting isolated and heavy thunderstorms to develop during the evening, moving northwards across the county.

They are likely to increase in frequency and with some torrential downpours as the night wears on, with hail and lightning anticipated.

Motorists travelling tonight are being asked to drive carefully.

There is a risk of surface water flooding and travel disruption, with up to 30 millimetres of rain possible within an hour, and over 50 millimetres possible over three hours during the night.
