Graphic footage shows a bird of prey eating an unlucky pigeon in Horsham town centre this afternoon (Friday April 1).
The bird of prey, thought to be a sparrowhawk, had dragged its victim below advertising hoardings near Wilkinson and Shelley Fountain.
In footage that some viewers may find distressing, the bird is perched on top of its prey, attacking the pigeon every few seconds.
The rare sight, particularly unusual in urban areas like town centres, caused small crowds to stop and watch.
Many passers by were captivated by the gruesome sight, with many filming the uncommon bird of prey.
Cris Duval, from Horsham, captured some dramatic images and described what happened as the sparrowhawk attacked the pigeon in front of her eyes.
She said: “I was walking down the road and the sparrowhawk came from nowhere towards me, and whipped the pigeon out of the sky.
“It just swooped and took it down.
“It flew down to where it was and that was it. I have never seen anything like it in Horsham, and I’m born and bred here.”
