Vote to help improve Horsham's Riverside Walk

Horsham Town Community Partnership (HTCP) has set up a new project aiming to improve stretches of the route, which becomes muddy after it rains.

The volunteer group has applied for £20,000 in the Aviva Community Fund and it has been approved for consideration. The next vital step is to gain online votes from supporters to bring about the project.

Plans have been drawn up for work on a 650 metres length in the Hills Farm Lane and River Arun area where mud and puddles have been a problem

However, before work can start, money has to be found to pay for it.

To be granted the money in the Aviva Community Fund the group needs to collect as many votes as possible in support of the project.

The more votes, the better the chance of going into the finals and winning the cash.

The group’s chair, Jane Apostolou, said: “Voting for this project is important because its completion will show such an advantage to users of the path.

“Our aim is to promote the use of open spaces and encourage a healthier lifestyle. We are developing projects to improve and enhance the Riverside Walk but first of all, our target has to be finding sufficient money to pay for each one.

“We want to make the path accessible to everyone and suitable for walkers, manual or mechanical wheelchairs and children’s buggies.

“Only projects with the most votes will become finalists, so we are relying on votes from the people of Horsham.

“The Riverside Walk is a great facility and attraction of the town and we want to continue to make it even better.”

The final full day to vote is Thursday November 17.

Earlier this year a narrow, uneven and often muddy path between Warnham Road and Rookwood golf course was replaced with a smooth, stone surface.

Residents have already commented on what a pleasure it is to walk along and many said that they will now take that route.

HTCP also installs seats, benches and improved signage on the 13-mile route around the town.

In 2014 three very successful Annual Walks with over 200 people taking part were arranged and there are plans for a new one in 2017.
