Coldwaltham’s very own May King and Queen are set to open the first May fayre at the village primary school in Church Lane this Saturday.

Organised by The Friends of St James’ School, the theme of this year’s event is ‘Royal Britannia’ in celebration of The Queen’s 90th birthday - a fitting year to crown their first ‘royal couple’ who will parade through a guard of honour to the school’s peace garden, where they will be crownedl before cutting the ribbon and officially opening the fayre at 12.45pm. It is hoped this will become a tradition within the school and the village.

The ABC animal sanctuary will be attending with their pigmy goat and a professor from Brighton University, who lives in the village, will be coming along with a collection of animal skulls and bones for visitors to identify. There will also be face painting, a pre-school play area, a hamper raffle, a barbecue, a Maypole Dancing demonstration, an ‘open mic’ stage and more. Entry is £1 for adults, children under 16 free.
