VIDEO: New map for Southwater Country Park orienteers

Orienteers can now challenge themselves to the course at Southwater Country Park as a new map is available.

The course is used by family groups, scouts, guides and sports clubs as a challenging activity to improve navigation, spatial awareness and fitness whilst having fun in a beautiful environment.

Maps are available to buy from Horsham District Council’s offices at Park House in North Street at a cost of £1 per map.

They will also be available soon at Southwater Country Park’s Visitor Centre and Horsham’s Visitor Information Centre in the Causeway.

Permanent orienteering maps are also available for Horsham Park (map last updated 2005), and Leechpool and Owlbeech Woods in Horsham (map last updated 2008).

Jonathan Chowen (Con, Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead), cabinet member for arts heritage and leisure, said: “This challenging outdoor sport is a great, active past time that is fun for all the family.

“I’m pleased to see that the new map is now available for Southwater Country Park and hope orienteers, experts and beginners, across the Horsham district pick up a copy of the map and take a trip to the park once the weather improves.”

The Council works in partnership with local clubs Southdowns Orienteers (www.southdowns-orienteers.org.uk) and Mole Valley Orienteers (www.mvoc.org).

Both clubs provide the maps and put on regular local events whilst the council maintains the markers.
