Hundreds of excited shoppers queued out the door as they waited for the international clothing retailer to open in Swan Walk shopping centre this morning.

Around 200 goodie bags were given out to customers waiting in the queue whilst hundreds more received 25 per cent off wrist bands.

Staff then showed off their dance moves outside the entrance before the ribbon was cut at 11am and the first people were allowed in.

Lauren Longhurst, from Horsham, turned up at 9am and was one of the first in the queue.

She said: “There were a few of us waiting in the cafe area but no-one wanted to be the first person in the queue.

“We have been quite excited. We don’t have to go all the way down to Crawley to get new clothes.”

Charlotte Henwood, of Partridge Green, said: “We got here at 9am because we love H&M.

“I think I would still have probably been in the queue even if there wasn’t a 25 per cent discount.”

The retailer first announced it would be opening in the town in June last year.

The store covers 1,580 square metres and is laid out across two floors, offering a selection of clothing for women, men and children.

Gill Buchanan, Swan Walk centre manger, said: “We are extremely excited to have H&M join the brand line up at Swan Walk and after a complex development project it is brilliant to see the store being so very well received by our customers.”

The store is hosting a variety of opening day activities including a live DJ and children’s face painting.

H&M’s country manager Carlos Duarte said: “At H&M we pride ourselves on being able to offer something for everyone and we are delighted to expand our portfolio to include customers in Horsham.”
