There is little chance of a respite from the rain and gusting winds over the weekend and into next week, according to the Met Office
The current sunshine this morning (Friday January 2) is not expected to last and there is a yellow warning for gusting winds up to 40mph later today.
A yellow warning has also been posted for rain for Sunday (January 5).
The forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) is heavy rain for much of the morning but this is expected to ease in the afternoon.
After Sunday’s downpours and winds, Monday and Tuesday are likely to see plenty more heavy showers and gusting winds.
Driving conditions are set to remain difficult as saturated ground quickly leads to surface water.
The longer range forecast for the south-east is for unsettled conditions until the second half of January when it will possibly turn colder, bringing less wind and rain.
