Thai restaurant Giggling Squid is opening in East Street, Horsham today (Thursday April 17).
The family-run chain which introduced the ‘Thai Tapas’ concept to Britain and will open at the site previously occupied by Giraffe.
The opening represents the completion of a long-standing goal for owner Andy Laurillard, who said Horsham residents visiting the Crawley branch have petitioned him to open in Horsham.
He said: “We always thought there was a gap in the market in the town where we’ve been looking for a site for three years.
“Horsham is a great place to be and since it was pedestrianised, East Street has become one of the most attractive eating locations in the Weald, rivalling Brighton as a destination for food lovers.”
Andy runs the restaurant chain with his wife Pranee and they started their business about 12 years ago in The Lanes in Brighton.
Pranee added: “We do Thai tapas, which are small portions of Thai food, which people can share and taste different flavours. That’s for lunch and in the evening we have a full menu.
“We are number nine, which for Thai people is a lucky number so I hope you will be lucky.
“It has been a long journey, but I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a learning curve, but we are here now.
“It’s still a family business - just myself and my husband. It’s not a franchise or a big company. We don’t want to do franchise because we want to control the quality.”
