UPDATE: Teen arrested after Bucks Green death crash

A 67-year-old woman has died after a collision on the A281 near Bucks Green.

The woman’s front seat passenger, a 75-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was flown to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, London, by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance. He has been detained for treatment.

The incident, between Hillhouse Lane and Cooks Hill, was initially reported to have been between a pedestrian and a vehicle but Sussex Police have confirmed that crash was a head-on collision between a white Vauxhall Vivaro van and a white Mini Cooper car.

A teenager, who suffered minor injuries, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

All those involved in the crash were from Surrey.

Sergeant Rob Baldwin, from the Road Traffic Policing Unit at Arundel, said: “We need to speak to anyone who saw the collision or who noticed either vehicle being driven shortly before it occurred.”

The road has been closed since 12.30pm this afternoon and a Sussex Police have said they expect the road to remain closed until 5pm this evening.

Motorists using the A29 and A281 are being advised to avoid the area.
