UPDATE: Rail disruption after fatality on the line

Rail passengers in the Horsham area are facing delays this morning (Friday September 5) after a person died after being struck by a train.

The incident happened at Horsham Road, Crawley, and disruption is likely to continue to at least noon today.

There are likely to be delays and alterations to various services.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Horsham Road level crossing, Crawley, shortly before 10am, on Friday, 5 September, after a report a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service also attended, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
