Broadbridge Heath and Horsham residents have been told not to expect their electricity to be switched back on until midnight.
The RH12 and RH13 postcode areas were hit by a power cut this afternoon (November 2).
Despite initially telling customers to expect the power back by 6.30pm, UK Power Networks now says it could be the early hours of tomorrow (November 3) before the electricity is switched back on.
“Our engineers are still working on the repair,” said the company at 7.51pm.
“There’s a lot of work to complete to get this fixed, so we have decided to use temporary generators to provide power while our engineers carry on with their work. “To allow time for us to get the generators out to your area and connect them, we’re now aiming to have your power on by midnight.
“We’re sorry to change the timeframe and will let you know when the generators arrive.”
At 7.20pm, the company said the problem was down to a fault with an underground cable.
