The bakery, in the Carfax, shut up shop suddenly over the weekend after many successful years in the town.

A notice was placed in the shop’s window explaining the store was to be shut ‘permanently’ after trading had finished on July 4.

Dale Pritchard managing director of Forfars Bakery explained the reason behind the closure.

He said: “Forfars is a very traditional English bakery.

“The Horsham store has been founded on very traditional products such as the cheese straws, Belgian Buns, sausage rolls etc, for which it is very well known and loved.

“Unfortunately, these products are not meeting the needs of the area and subsequently the costs of running such an expensive location.

“We have therefore decided to close the store whilst we re-evaluate our position and offering.”
