Police closed the A24 southbound after a lorry struck a crash barrier and ruptured its fuel tank, spilling a large amount of diesel across the carriageway.

West Sussex County Council’s Highways Department has been working throughout the day and night to repair the damage and re-open the road.

The second lane on the A24 has now re-opened, according to the council.
