UPDATE: 700 more homes left without power across the district

Over 700 more homes in the district were left without power today (Monday February 8) as Sussex continues to be battered by strong winds.

UK Power Networks has reported 741 homes in The Street area of Capel were without electricity due to a fault on an overhead line at 11.45am.

Power was restored to 506 of the properties within four minutes and all but eight homes were back on line by 3pm.

Engineers are still working to fix the lines for the final few homes.

Two properties in West Chiltington also reported having no electricity after an overhead cable came down near Smock Alley at around 1pm.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said engineers have been sent to the site and are working to fix the issue.

In total almost 1,000 homes have been left without power across the district today.

161 properties in Rupser were cut off after heavy winds brought down an overhead power line.

Another 31 homes were affected in Storrington whist 13 properties in Horsham were also off line for seven hours.
