Fire crews were called regarding the incident between Findon and the Washington roundabout after smoke was seen coming from the vehicle.

The smoke was due to a mechanical failure of a turbo component and not a fire, a West Sussex Fire spokesperson has said.

One lane of the A24 remains closed northbound and there is heavy congestion, according to police.

Sussex police said the service recieved a call at 7.20am after the lorry broke down.
