VIDEO UPDATE: ‘Major’ blaze destroys part of listed home between Bolney and Cowfold

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Grade II-listed Ormonde Hall in Cowfold Road after reports of a roof fire just after 2.20pm.

A spokesperson for the service said that ten units and more than 45 firefighters were at the scene.

At around 4.30pm the fire remained in the part of the first floor and roof space.

A salvage operation was then carried out.

The A272 was closed between the Coach House roundabout and Bolney Cross for more than three hours so firefighters could run hoses across the road.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “The A272 Cowfold Road west of the A23 junction at Bolney has been closed in both directions while West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is dealing with a major fire at Ormonde Hall.

“The closure is necessary to allow firefighters to run hoses across the road to hydrants. Police have set up a diversion via the A281 at Cowfold.”
