VIDEO: Fire crews pump two million litres of water at scene of major Worthing Road Horsham flood

Firefighters have worked throughout the night pumping around two million litres of water at the scene of a major flood which submerged lines near Horsham railway station.

Crews from East and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside West Sussex County Council and Network Rail to clear the water from a field in Worthing Road.

Flooding surrounded a property near Denne Hill and poured over a bank onto train lines - causing large-spread disruption for rail travellers yesterday (Monday January 6).

The busy road was closed at 7pm last night and was still shut as of 10am this morning (Tuesday January 7).

Fire crews are still on the scene but hope to hand over the incident to West Sussex County Council soon.

Richard Davy, deputy district commander at West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, said the operation has been a success.

“We pumped about two million litres over night from one side of the road to the other,” he explained.

“The trains are up and running again so we’re really pleased.”
