VIDEO: Commuter chaos as Horsham district is drenched

More than 100 train commuters were left standing wet and cold in the rain awaiting replacement buses outside Horsham railway station.

Simon Whitehead, 52, of Horsham town centre, was trying to get to work in south London.

“Replacement services have been very, very slow and inadequate,” he told the County Times.

“Very disappointed, especially with the new rail increase that’s just been announced.”

Flooding at Littlehaven and Christ Hospital has the Arun Valley line via Horsham with no train services operating between Ford and Crawley.

Replacement buses are operating between Barnham and Horsham.

Southern Rail is currently unable to source buses to operate between Horsham and Three Bridges although Metrobus will accepting rail passengers on services between Horsham and Gatwick Airport subject to available space onboard.

Meanwhile, the line between Horsham and Dorking remains closed because of a landslip a the end of December.

Lines will not re-open until February as around 40 metres of embankment has collapsed and repairs will require an access road to be built to allow machinery in to carry out pile driving to underpin the embankment.
