A woman suffered a broken leg and had to be cut from her car after a five-vehicle crash in Fittleworth yesterday (Sunday November 8).

The incident happened on the A283 The Fleet, 150 metres east of its junction with Wyncombe Close, at about 4.15pm.

The cars involved were a black Audi A5, driven by a 27-year-old man from Petworth; a blue Ford C-Max, driven by a 70-year-old-man from Fareham, Hampshire; a blue Vauxhall Agila, driven by a 56-year-old woman from Worthing; a grey Volkswagen Touran, driven by a 57-year-old man from Sompting, and a silver Ford Galaxy, driven by a 52-year-old man from Petworth.

The driver of the Vauxhall had to be freed by firefighters. She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with a broken leg.

A woman passenger, 65, in the Ford C-Max was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, after complaining of chest pains.

The A283 was blocked for just over three hours while the incident was dealt with and damaged vehicles recovered.
