UPDATE: Man dies after taxi and lorry crash in Horsham

A man has died after a taxi and a lorry collided along a Horsham road earlier this morning (Tuesday July 5), police have said.

Emergency services were called to Comptons Lane at the junction with Heron Way, near Forest School, at about 10.45am.

A spokesman for the fire service said the man became trapped in one of the vehicles. He was freed by firefighters from Horsham, Billingshurst and Crawley using hydraulic rescue equipment.

The Air Ambulance was also sent to the collision.

Police said the man, in his 60s, died at the scene.

A 34-year-old man from Crawley was arrested after providing a positive drugs test and has been bailed pending analysis, officers added.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police on [email protected] quoting Operation Bridgetown.

Police closed the road between the Depot Road junction and the St Leonards Road junction. It is due to open later this afternoon.
