A HORSHAM cyclist was airlifted to hospital after a collision with a vehicle left him ‘seriously hurt’ yesterday evening (Thursday September 29).
The 36-year-old man collided with a blue Audi A4 saloon in Blackbridge Lane, near Hengist Close, Horsham, shortly after 6pm.
Helicopters from the police and air ambulance were scrambled to the scene in response to the accident.
Police cordoned off the road as the injured person was treated.
The cyclist was taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, where he remains in a critical condition with head and leg injuries.
The 41-year-old driver, described by police as a ‘local man’, suffered no injuries.
A few hundred yards away from the scene a large crowd gathered on the Needles playing field to get a close up look of the two helicopters.
One helicopter left at around 7pm and the other about half an hour later.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “We would like anyone who saw what happened to contact us via 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Pelican.”
