Person dies after rail incident between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon

A person has died after all rail lines were blocked due to an incident between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon, police have confirmed

British Transport Police were called at 8.23am on June 30 to Salfords station following a report of a casualty on the tracks, a spokesman said. Officers attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

He added: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

Southern Rail said on Twitter trains are able to move again between the stations in both directions.

A spokesman added: “We’re working to get services back on the move between these stations but residual delays and cancellations will still affect services on the network.”

Disruption is expected until 4pm and ticket acceptance is in place on the following services:

South Western Railway trains between Portsmouth, Southampton, Havant and London Waterloo. Change at Clapham Junction for trains to East Croydon
