A 31-year-old man who was riding pillion on the bike suffered lacerations to his head and leg and was taken East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.

The crash happened on a public bridleway of Kilnwood Lane, Faygate.

The spokesman said the men were not wearing crash helmets.

Sergeant Alan Spicer said: “Local officers have been giving their best efforts to prevent this anti-social riding happening on public footpaths in the area. But their worst fears have been realised and a man is seriously ill in hospital. It should serve as a warning of the real consequences, and anyone considering riding recklessly on these bridleways will be dealt with robustly.”
