Fatal crash driver was retained firefighter responding to 999 call

The driver of a Toyota Celica car who died after a crash at Ashurst Wood, near East Grinstead, at 11.55pm on Saturday has been named.

Sussex Police say he was Paul Keenor, 23, from Ashurst Wood, a building contractor and a retained firefighter with the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

He had been a crew member at Forest Row fire station since 2011.

It is understood he was responding to his alerter as a result of a 999 call received by ESFRS when the crash occurred in Wall Hill Road, Ashurst Wood.

No other vehicle was involved.
