Driver in critical condition after A23 car transporter crash

A driver remains in critical condition in hospital after a crash between on the A23.

The 35-year-old man from London suffered life-threatening injuries when the red Fiat Punto he was driving and a Volvo car transporter crashed on the northbound carriageway at Bolney shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday (September 16).

A police spokesman said he was taken to in Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he remained in a critical condition today (Friday September 18).

The driver of the transporter, a man, 38, from Faversham, Kent, was unhurt.

Roads policing officer PC Christina Lane said: “We’re now trying to establish exactly what happened to cause this collision.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw it happen, or who noticed either vehicle shortly before the crash.

“They are asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting Operation Ensfield.”

PC Lane added: “It was the most serious of several collisions on that stretch of the A23, on both carriageways, that occurred that afternoon.”

The crash led to the A23 northbound being closed for several hours. A diversion was set up while specialist investigators examined the scene and debris was cleared.
