The Sussex astronaut took to Twitter to share the images, including a selfie, following the spacewalk yesterday (Friday, January 15).

Alongside the images, Major Peake wrote: “Today’s exhilarating #spacewalk will be etched in my memory forever – quite an incredible feeling!”

Major Peake and his US colleague Tim Kopra were outside the International Space Station (ISS) for four hours and 43 minutes before their spacewalk was cut short due to a water bubble inside Col Kopra’s helmet.

Despite the abrupt end, the pair had already completed the main objective of the spacewalk, which was to repair a broken voltage regulator on the ISS.

Major Peake posted on Twitter again a couple of hours later, saying: “Wrapping up today’s spacewalk activities. Huge thanks to the ground teams who make it all possible & keep us safe out there - you guys rock!”

The spacewalk was broadcast live on computers and television screens across the world.
