Temporary traffic lights in Burgess Hill have caused ‘mass chaos’, according to a resident.

Peter Burling raised concerns about the traffic lights this week after getting stuck among the ‘chaos’ on Wednesday evening.

He told the Middy: “The four-way traffic lights at the Goddards Green roundabout on the A2300 by the new development has caused mass chaos this evening.

“Traffic queues back onto and blocking the A23, back to the Cowfold junction. It is an accident waiting to happen! Craziness.

“Social media sites are full of complaints about them.”

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “Yesterday (Thursday), a Highways inspector contacted the construction contractor. The lights, which had been put up prematurely, had already been removed.

“We will be talking to the contractor about measures it can take to reduce the impact on traffic, as much as possible, when the temporary lights are put back in early January.”
