Working together for the second consecutive year, the school and Sainsbury’s provided a tasty breakfast to all pupils in Year Six during SATS week.

Recent research by Cardiff University confirming the link between a good breakfast and success in exams underpins the importance of such initiatives. The school ensured everyone had the best possible start to the day by offering a nutritious breakfast. The week culminated in a well-deserved bacon sandwich for ninety children.

Pupils were also treated to an exclusive pack from Coco’s Hairdressers, Billingshurst, containing essential stationary items to help with revision.

Helen Williamson, headteacher at Billingshurst Primary School comments: “Arranging for pupils to enjoy breakfast together during SATS week really helps to encourage a shared sense of support, as well as ensuring all pupils have the fuel to boost concentration. By encouraging our children to eat a nutritious meal at the right time of the day, we are hoping to promote good habits for the future beyond the exams. This is an important time in the school calendar, so we are particularly grateful to Sainsbury’s and Coco’s for supporting our pupils. It is fantastic for the children to recognise that the local community wishes them every success.”

Ian Goacher, Sainsbury’s store manager comments: “We are delighted to support the pupils of Year Six and wish them lots of luck in what we are sure will prove to be a very successful week. The links between eating a healthy breakfast and academic achievement are well documented, therefore any opportunity to help pupils reach their full potential is a valuable one.”
