Staff from the Horsham-based international wildlife charity, and a team from Kuoni Travel in Dorking, held cat-themed picnics on Friday July 8. The Born Free team was joined by mascot ‘Roary’ for tea in the grounds of their office at Broadlands Business Campus, whilst Kuoni staff spent an hour chilling out at their headquarters.

Inspired by big cats in the wild (who like their domestic cousins, spend a lot of their time asleep), The Big Cat Nap aims to raise awareness of the many problems they face, and funds for Born Free’s big cat projects.

Joanne Bartholomew, Born Free’s Events and Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: “It’s great to see so many supporters getting involved during our ‘Year of the Lion’. On social media, we’ve been asking people for ‘sleepy selfies’ of their pet cats using #BigCatNap, and we’ve had an overwhelming response so far. We’ll choose a winner next week, who’ll become the face of next year’s event.”

Born Free and Kuoni are teaming up again on Wednesday October 5, with a special trip to see the award-winning Lion King musical, at London’s Lyceum Theatre. Tickets cost £69.50 (inclusive of theatre ticket, return coach transfers from Dorking and prize ticket draw to win a cuddly toy). Email [email protected] or visit http://bit.ly/BornFreeEvents
