Persistent rain has meant Sussex’s Royal London One-Day Cup match against Lancashire at Horsham today has been abandoned.

Overnight rain which has continued this morning and afternoon meant the opening game of the competition at Cricketfield Road had been delayed.

Play was due to start at 10.30am but an inspection by the umpires had been set for 1.30pm after lunch was taken at 1pm.

With full covers still on the pitch and the forecast no better this afternoon the decision was made to abandon the 50-over fixture without a ball being bowled.

The match was the finale of the annual Horsham Festival of Cricket after Nottingham beat Sussex in their County Championship clash in just three days earlier this week.

Sussex expressed their disappointment at the outcome but thanked Horsham Cricket Club and Horsham Sports Club for their hospitality for the annual fixtures.

Each side will receive one point each.

Reaction and report in Thursday’s West Sussex County Times.
