Sussex ambulance staff and nurses to join Pride

Staff from South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) will represent the trust at the event, held in Preston Park, this weekend (August 1-2).

Angela Rayner, SECAmb’s inclusion manager, said: “We’re hosting a meeting with representatives from all other ambulance services the day before to re-launch a national LGBT forum.

“Most have confirmed they will be joining the parade so it looks like it will be an even bigger event for the ambulance service than in previous years.”

More than 80 staff will walk with the trust’s float in the parade and will and will demonstrate life-saving skills, provide advice on recruitment, Community First Responder Schemes and how to become a member of the Trust at a stand in the park.

It will also be an opportunity for staff to spread awareness amongst the public on killer conditions such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease.

Geraint Davies, director of commercial services, said: “SECAmb is absolutely delighted to take part once again in Pride Brighton & Hove.

“SECAmb values diversity and this is reflected in our strong turnout at the event.

“The tremendous support we get from the crowds lining the streets is an amazing experience and makes me proud to be part of SECAmb.”

The RCN will be running a stand on the festival site all day from 9am where they will be promoting diversity in nursing and giving advice on general health and wellbeing.

Sue Huggins from the RCN said: “This is our 5th year at Pride and we are immensely proud to continue with our support of this event. We look forward to meeting the public as well as RCN members on what will be a very enjoyable day.

“The RCN is a champion of diversity, equality, human rights and liberty, all of which are fundamental to nursing care and which help to create an inclusive healthcare environment where everyone can feel valued.”
