Year 10 hospitality and catering pupils at the Forest School showed their sweet talent when they worked with sugarcraft expert and pastry chef, Aimee Sutcliffe, from Eton College.
The Compton’s Lane pupils took part in a hands-on workshop as part of their course, with Aimee showing them how to create stunning designs and decorations from sugar paste.
The event followed on from a school trip last year to the Salon Culinaire hospitality competition where pupils saw the best in the industry perform.
As a result of this event and the enthusiasm from the pupils, Kim McIntyre from Sodexo, who manage the catering at Forest School, arranged for Aimee to come in and run the workshops for the pupils.
“It was great to see the boys working with such enthusiasm. It was a new experience for them working with sugar paste and the final pieces they produced were of an exceptionally high standard” said Mr Day, Food Technology Teacher.
Sodexo Manger Kim McIntyre added: “At Sodexo we are always keen to support the schools in the wider teaching and learning. This was a fantastic opportunity and we were very pleased to be able to link the school with professionals in the industry.”
