Brightly coloured dahlias were some of the stunning exhibits at this year’s Autumn Show of the Ewhurst Horticultural Society on Saturday 14 September in the Village Hall.
Alan Moody won all seven of the dahlia classes and also took the Dilley Cup for Best Exhibit in the Flower and Pot Plants Section.
Anne Dyball retained the two cups she won last year, the Norris Cup for most points in the Vegetable and Fruit Section, and also the Spence Cup for most points in Home Fare.
Richard Munford was also a cup winner for most points in Flowers and Pot Plants securing the Geoff McQuire Shield.
Cranleigh Masons presented two new awards of £10 each for the Best Vegetable Exhibit, won by Andrew Lock for his impressive leeks, and Best Bloom in Show, won by Alan Moody for one of his beautiful dahlias.
Despite an improvement in entries in the Floral Art Section in recent shows, sadly these classes were not well supported this year.
Andrew McIndoe from Hilliers Nurseries will be giving a Talk in Ewhurst Village Hall on Wednesday 2nd October at 8 pm.
This year was Chelsea Flower Show’s hundredth year and Andrew has been involved with Hilliers’ Gold Medal winning team for the past 25 years.
He will be giving a fascinating talk about behind the scene preparations for a Chelsea Flower Show.
Tickets may be obtained by contacting Anne Dyball on 01483 271812.
Many thanks go to all who supported and helped to make the Autumn Show another successful event in the Society’s calendar.
Anyone interested in joining can contact the Membership Secretary on 01483 276713 or www.ewhursthortsoc.org.uk. Our next show will be the Spring Show on Saturday 5 April 2014 in the Village Hall.
