Horsham’s popular Elephantastic trail is set for another boost in the form of an A-list actress supporting the project.

Julie Walters will visit the town on Wednesday (August 19) as part of her role as patron of the Samaritans of Horsham and Crawley.

The star, best known for her roles in Educating Rita and Harry Potter, will be in Swan Walk at 2.30pm to add her signature to model elephants.

Charity director Sue Jago said: “We are very grateful to Horsham Publications and Ritchie Phillips for each supplying an elephant for us and to Collyer’s art students for decorating them so beautifully.

“The icing on the cake is to have Julie Walters signing them in person. Needless to say we are thrilled.

“We were lucky enough to be part of the giraffe trail two years ago which was hugely successful but I think Elephantastic has easily surpassed it. Such a lovely idea.”

Members of the public have been challenged to hunt down the elephants, record their names and enter the list to win a host of prizes.

The competition will close on August 31 and the elephants will be auctioned off to raise more money for charity.
