Southwater mum starts epilepsy fundraising group

Young Epilepsy provides a range of support and information for parents, children and young people and training for professionals. It campaigns for better access to, and quality of, health and education services.

Epilepsy is the most common neurological condition in the UK yet there is still such a stigma and many myths around this condition. Learning that your child has epilepsy can be a frightening and lonely experience for both parents and children.

Mum Rebecca Turnbull has first hand experience of the astounding support that this national charity can offer to children with epilepsy and other neurological conditions, through the educational support her son received in his infant school, medical research developments and support for the family which has been a lifeline.

With a strong desire to help other children and families in the Horsham area, they are now a 15-member fundraising team of mums, dads, siblings and friends whose vision is to raise awareness of the charity Young Epilepsy, the effects of epilepsy on a child through their school journey and home life, and to be a focal point in the Horsham area for families affected by epilepsy who would like to become involved and join this friendly group.

They meet regularly at the Cock Inn pub in Southwater to plan their fundraising events. These include a sponsored 40k bike ride along the Downs Link in September, and street collections in Southwater , Horsham and Billingshurst.

As a team, they are immensely grateful for the continued support of their local pub, the Cock Inn in Southwater who have very kindly chosen Young Epilepsy as their charity to benefit from their annual family fun day to be held on 30th August at the pub.
