Southwater business affected by three weeks of lost broadband
A Southwater business owner said he could have missed out on a lot of business after phone lines and broadband went down three weeks ago.
Eighteen properties in Shipley Road lost their phone lines on January 28 after underground works caused damage to lines.
David Liverton lives on a farm in the road and he runs a Bed and Breakfast and a caravan site.
He said this is usually the time of year when bookings come in for the summer but he has not been able to check his e-mails for three weeks.
He said: “If people try twice and get no response they’ll go somewhere else.
“We don’t know how many enquiries have gone elsewhere.
“It is a working farm so we have a source of income but the B and B and caravan site are important subsidiaries.”
A spokesman for BT said cabling works would start today (February 19) and residents’ phone lines should be working again by the end of this week.
He said: “We suffered third party damage to an underground cable which is affecting services to 18 properties in the area who have reported faults.
“We have been in the process if renewing around 65 metres of cabling which has also required new ducting for this cable to go into.
“This ductwork is now completed and can now start the cabling works will be underway tomorrow (February 19).
“We are sorry for any inconvenience whilst this work has been taking place and are hoping to have all services restored by the end of the week.”
