Horsham residents and representatives from various organisations paid tribute in the annual Remembrance Sunday service in the Carfax today (November 10).
Around 2,000 people packed the centre of town to watch the parade march into the Carfax and congregate around the town’s memorial.
Following yesterday’s heavy rainfall the bright sunshine made a welcome return and boosted the crowd.
Led by the Rev Canon Guy Bridgewater, the Vicar of Horsham, the service began with the hymn ‘O God Our Help in Ages Past’.
This was followed by The Last Post.
The two minutes silence, in memory of the fallen, was respectfully held.
Wreaths were laid by representatives of the armed services and youth organisations, along with Horsham MP Francis Maude and district and county council representatives.
A church service follows at the Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin in the Causeway, Horsham.
See Thursday’s West Sussex County Times for a full report and photos from the day.
