A PROUD Storrington mother has spoken about how ‘chuffed’ she is that her daughter has made it to the final 50 of a nationwide singing competition.
Anabel Mather, 11, Beech Grove, Storrington, entered The Big Audition by submitting her version of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, using the Ellie Goulding version as inspiration, via YouTube.
Her mother Pene, 39, said: “She is the youngest finalist and is competing against people who have gone to stage school, so every vote counts,” adding: ““I couldn’t be more proud of her and would love for her to go all the way.”
The competition is run by Pizza Express with singer Jamie Cullum. It is looking for raw and exciting talent to support with a prize to help them launch their career.
“Anabel is very shy and retiring at school but when she gets on that stage she does what she is good at and loves it,” said Pene.
She added that it is always a ‘family affair’. “Anabel’s brother Ford, 12, gets dragged from place to place with a scowl on his face, but he is planning what he will do when she is famous. He has decided he will be her security driving her from place to place.”
Tonight (Thursday September 22) the Rydon Community College pupil is performing against other acts at Pizza Express in Maidstone in a hope to make the top ten.
Members of the public have until September 30 to vote for their favourite act.
