The scooters, costing around £18,000, will be available as part of Horsham District Council’s Shopmobility scheme.

Colin Scourfield of Sussex Freemasons said: “It helps everybody really, it helps the shops, it helps the people who are shopping and gives them a great sense of being looked after.”

Ben Golds, the district council’s parking services manager, said: “It enables people to get out and about, and catch up with friends and family.”
