Thanks to Andy Murray’s glorious summer, brother Jamie’s major titles and Britain’s exciting Davis Cup campaigns, tennis is enjoying a golden spell.

If you have been inspired to get back on court there are several new opportunities in the Horsham area.

Don’t worry that autumn is upon us, tennis is played all year round at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre which is holding rusty racquets sessions to brush up your skills.

The hour-long coaching on Mondays at 11.30am and again at 6pm – for which you will need your own racquet whether or not it is rusty – are run by a professional, experienced at helping everyone to enjoy the game.

The centre, in Wickhurst Lane, has a varied tennis programme for all levels and ages including over-50s on Thursdays and a two-hour leisure morning on Wednesdays.

More experienced players are catered for on Saturdays. There is also training on Monday nights for those wanting to improve their matchplay.

Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre manager Emma McCormick said: “We support all levels of tennis from five-year-olds to our over-50s club.

“We try and run lots of different sessions to encourage everyone to give tennis a go, it’s a great way to meet new people and have some fun.

“We are lucky to have an experienced coach with a vast knowledge of the sport who can mentor and motivate at our sessions whilst ensuring fun at grassroot level.”

The Broadbridge Heath centre, which will have new courts in the redevelopment, is one of the exciting new options in Horsham for tennis lovers.

Horsham District Council recently announced that it would be running a programme on the Horsham Park courts, which are undergoing an extensive make-over, in partnership with Horsham Lawn Tennis Club.

It’s good news for fans of the game - and those interested in taking it up.
