This bank holiday weekend Robert Cornish from Rusper, West Sussex aims to help raise £25,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by walking the whole of the Isle of Wight in just one day. Rob as part of a team of fundraisers from P&O Cruises will cover the gruelling 106 kilometres completely on foot.

The money raised by Robert and the team will go towards funding a new garden for people affected by cancer at Southampton General Hospital.

Cancer treatment can often be gruelling and spending time in a hospital environment can be hard for a person going through cancer treatment, and their family. The new healing garden will be a tranquil place where people affected by cancer and their families can enjoy some peace and quiet together.

Robert Cornish, Personal Cruise Expert at P&O Cruises and one of the walkers said, “I decided to complete this challenge in memory of my Dad, who I lost to cancer on New Year’s Eve 2002, when I was just 9 years old. That’s why I’m really proud to be raising money and making a difference for Macmillan. I have never done anything like this before, but I do enjoy a challenge and I am sure that this will certainly be one!”

The challenge is just one part of P&O Cruises’ partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support which began in February 2013. Since then P&O Cruises have hosted a number of fun activities on board their fleet of 7 ships, including officer and crew fitness challenges and coffee mornings.

Cat Morton, Partnership Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support says, “A huge good luck to everyone taking on this impressive challenge. For many of us, cancer will be the toughest fight we ever face, but through our partnership and by taking on this challenge, P&O Cruises will help Macmillan to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.”
