RUDGWICK villagers are inviting people to a weekend of activities to bring the community together for the Diamond Jubliee in June.
Following on from the success of last year’s Royal Wedding celebrations, they have street parties planned throughout the village on Sunday June 3 and Monday June 4 will be a day for everyone to enjoy.
There will be a parade from Kilnfield Road to the playing fields starting at 1pm led by the Village Crier and the nominated parade King and Queen riding on the lead tractor. The main event will open at the playing fields at approximately 1.30pm where there will be stalls and sideshows.
Various games will be held in a competition ring including children’s races, tug-of-war, horseshoe tossing, a skateboard demonstration, an egg throwing contest and numerous other activities.
The main area will host displays from different village groups such as Rudgwick Primary School, Fitness for Life and an all age village wide Zumba session generously led by Lucinda Kingston, now much famed and followed for her classes in the area.
Rudgwick Wives will be serving refreshments throughout the day and further foods and delights from the commonwealth will be provided by the roads and area stalls. From 5pm five local bands will be celebrating the Jubilee with their own genres to satisfy every taste and filling the midsummer night with a massive musical celebration.
Visitors are invited to bring a picnic to the playing field and listen to the music, or enjoy some spit roast in the evening.
“If you have nothing going on in your village, why not come and join us in Rudgwick?” say organisers.
