A birthday golf tournament and Golf Rocks concert, held at Wildwood Golf Club in Alfold, raised £11,000 for Rowleys Centre for the Community in Cranleigh.
The event took place at the end of August when Phil Harrison, Managing Director of the club celebrated his birthday once again by providing a great day’s golf, evening meal, prize presentation, and auction and this year for the first time – a rock concert in the evening – Golf Rocks.
Golf Rocks was hosted by pop legend Joe Brown and featured celebrity guests including The Who’s Kenney Jones, cricketer Mark Butcher who is renowned as being a great musical entertainer, Foreigner’s Rick Wills and other well-known musicians.
The day and evening was a resounding success and the concert will become a regular feature of this event. Next year’s date is eagerly awaited by all who went along to ensure it is on their golfing calendar for 2014.
This is the 4th year that Phil and his wife Louise, who is sales and marketing manager and events co-ordinator at the club, have held this fantastic fundraiser - and this year was the biggest cheque so far!
Phil went along to Rowleys this week with Steve Parker from property development company Willmott Dixon who were sponsors of the golf day, to present their giant cheque.
Rowleys centre manager Christine Napthine said: “We are thrilled to bits with this amazing fundraising donation from Phil and Louise and cannot express strongly enough how much this means to us all at Rowleys.
“Rowleys is providing a vital service to older people in the community, our centre is somewhere they can come for companionship, activities, a nutritious meal, events and trips. Many of our clients live alone and they tell us they would be totally lost without Rowleys. So it is really important that we can ensure we continue this service into the future.
“Rowleys relies heavily on fundraising and donations and this £11,000will make a phenomenal difference to us. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the event, Phil and Louise especially, to those who went along to play golf and bid for auction prizes, to Willmot Dixon for their sponsorship, the lovely back office team, catering team and everyone who took part in the brilliant evening concert.”
