Evolution Fitness is seeking planning approval from Horsham District Council to vary one of the conditions of its use of the property in Gladstone Road, Horsham.

But neighbours are concerned over noise and vibration from the gym - in the middle of a residential area - and say they fear it could get worse if the go-ahead is given for a changing room to be used for gym activities.

A number of protest letters have been submitted to planners objecting to the change. Many say that they already face disruption caused by the noise and vibration of heavy weights being dropped.

Residents say that the gym - previously occupied by ladies fitness centre Curves - has ‘serious negative effects’ on their properties.

But Evolution Fitness says it has taken steps to mitigate noise and that the current changing room would be used for only press-ups and pull-ups and not for weight training.

Richard Ward, who lives near the gym, fears that if Horsham Council gives the go-ahead it could set ‘a dangerous precedent for controlling future development across the district.’
