Year Four and Five pupils were invited to submit a piece of writing inspired by the title ‘The Journey,’ which could be non-fiction or fiction. The final selection was based on originality, language and enjoyment. Having received more than 100 entries, the English Department at Cranleigh Prep had the tough challenge of judging a fabulous collection of stories.

Heather Kitson, English teacher, said: “With wonderful, imaginative tales ranging from toads in space and eggs in a fridge to the dilemma of Fruits vs Candy and myths, it was very difficult to choose the best.”

The 12 winners were finally nominated from Cranleigh Primary School, Loxwood Primary School, Park Mead Primary School and Shamley Green Primary School. Pupils, teachers and parents were invited to Cranleigh Prep for a Winners’ Tea Party.

Kate Schutte, head of English and the presentation host, said: “It was such an uplifting experience to read so many inspiring and creative stories.

“It was great to welcome so many visitors from local schools to Cranleigh Prep and we look forward to the Creative Writing Competition becoming an annual event.”
